Beyond the Basics Workshop: From Knowledge to Applied Skill - Build Your Own AI Role-Play or AI Coaching Simulation
Beyond the Basics is a virtual workshop series brought to you by the AI Workgroup and Learning Technologies SIG.
Date: Tuesday, July 28, 2026
Time: 6:30 - 7:30 PM ET
Location: Virtual. Zoom link will be provided after registration.
Most organizations already have the knowledge their people need, in documents, recordings, and the experience of their experts. The hard part is turning that knowledge into skills people actually use on the job. In this hands-on session, we'll do exactly that: starting from your own material, you'll create a working AI role-play or AI coaching simulation through a simple, chat-based process, no manual scenario authoring and no course-building. You'll leave having built something you can use.
What you'll be able to do by the end:
By the end of the session, every attendee will be able to create their own AI role-play or coaching simulation based on a real use case.

This in-person workshop is an all-in future-focused event for all L&D Professionals.
Date: Wednesday, July 29
Time: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM ET
Location: Westgate Lakes Resort and Spa, 9500 Turkey Lake Rd, Orlando, Florida 32819, United States
Registration Process: Register for this event via the ATD Central FL chapter website.
SHIFT 2026 is a one-day, all-in summit for L&D professionals who'd rather build the future than wait for it. Through focused keynotes, hands-on labs, and real conversations, you'll learn to apply AI-fluent techniques, human-centered design, and the modern L&D stack (Storyline, Rise, custom GPTs, no-code automation) to create measurable learning experiences. Sessions are small, collaborative, and tool-forward so you build with the technology — not just watch it.
This isn't another conference with a binder and a buffet. You'll leave with proof: a portfolio piece, a working tool, a published post, or a sharper rollout plan you can share on Monday. SHIFT is designed for career shifters and early-career builders—instructional designers, trainers-turned-strategists, learning technologists, and educators moving into corporate L&D. Spend a focused morning at Westgate Lakes Resort with practitioners who will expand your network, sharpen your skills, and reposition your role for the shift already changing how work gets learned.

Storytelling That ROCKS! (Igniting Narrative Cognition)
This virtual workshop equips participants with practical storytelling frameworks and techniques that ignite narrative cognition, elevate emotional engagement, and strengthen retention presentation execution.
Date: Tuesday, August 11, 2026
Time: 12:00 - 1:30PM ET
Location: Virtual. The Zoom link will be provided after you register.
Speaker: Peter W. Carbone, MBA, Founder of Mindset Effect Consulting
Storytelling That Rocks is a high‑energy, science‑driven workshop that gives presenters practical, repeatable storytelling frameworks to ignite narrative cognition, lower cognitive load, and create the emotional engagement audiences need to learn and remember.
Participants experience how story transforms complex information into clarity, boosts germane load for deeper understanding, and bends the Forgetting Curve through meaning, imagery, and resonance. By the end, they know how to turn any message into a narrative that connects, sticks, and drives real influence.
About our Presenter:
Peter W. Carbone, the founder of Mindset Effect Consulting, brings nearly three decades of life sciences and various commercial experiences spanning consulting, field sales, leadership, operations, marketing, and learning and development. He has partnered with numerous Fortune 100 life sciences organizations, including Johnson & Johnson, Takeda, Alora, Novartis, arginx, Otsuka, and Ionis Pharmaceuticals, where he leveraged his deep expertise to author multiple publications grounded in real‑world practice.
He is the author of The RISE (Rare Disease) Selling Framework 2nd edition, a guide designed for individual contributors in commercial rare disease roles. In 2024, Carbone introduced The RISE (Rare Disease) Leadership Framework, a book he wrote for first‑line leaders and learning and development professionals navigating the complexities of rare disease commercialization. Both books draw directly from his hands‑on experience in rare disease sales, leadership, and professional development.
Additionally, in 2026, he published Rockin' Presentation Skills, a book for experienced presenters/facilitators who desire to elevate this critical professional set of skills. The last chapter of this book is the foundation of this workshop.
Just for fun: Peter is also a writer, novelist, drummer, and 2nd‑degree black belt in Taekwondo. He recently published a fictional spiritual crime thriller, Nail of Veneration.
