The Sounds of Music

Using the Power of Music to

Enhance the Learning Experience

Using music is a powerful force that can be used to a great effect in a learning environment. Music, like any effective training tool should be used skillfully and judiciously!

The session will provide participants with valuable guidelines for incorporating music into their program design and delivery. A short history of the use of affective music will be followed by a discussion of the psychological and physiological aspects of using music. We will also briefly review the supportive research behind the use of music to enhance the learning environment. Key points will be demonstrated by playing music examples in conjunction with presented concepts. The majority of the session will be a demonstration of the broad use of the medium. We will also cover the hardware requirements and copyright laws related to using recorded music.

Participants will learn how to select a piece of music and what kinds of problems they need to be prepared to handle when using emotional material. This unique session will give participants a chance to experience the roller coaster ride that music can provide to stimulate learning.
