Go-To-Market Program Manager, SailPoint · Founder, Virtual Training Pros · ATDSFL Past President (2024–2025)

Barb is a longtime L&D junkie with 15+ years in talent development. She founded Virtual Training Pros in 2020 to make learning sticky, and her sweet spot is where learning, technology, and a little bit of “there has GOT to be a better way” come together. Right now she is focused on AI workflows that make work and learning smarter, and a whole lot more interesting.

Q
When you’re not transforming lives, what do you love doing for fun that brings you joy?
A
I’m a mermaid and mom at heart! Give me an ocean, a snorkel, and a little sunshine, and I’m ridiculously happy. I also love exploring new places with my adventure buddy, Ophelia, who happens to be the sweetest dog you will ever meet, with very strong opinions about our itinerary. I’ve officially entered my digital nomad era, so I’m saying yes to seasonal travel (four months in Austin coming up!), more ocean days, more urban dog adventures, and anything that makes me think, “Well, THAT sounds fun!” And, of course, I love meeting up with my son regularly to enjoy acai bowls and talk about business, his workout wins, my adventures, and the never-ending discussion about the meaning of life. In keeping with his strict social media policy, we’ll call him He Who Must Not Be Named.
Q
Tell us about a work project that you’re absolutely crushing and are super proud of right now!
A
Plot twist! My proudest project right now has been all about writing. I finished my first fictional novel, a summer beach read with lots of ocean atmosphere, time-travel elements, and plenty of adventure. Second novel is in the works. Turns out, writing is the easy part! Editing and figuring out how to actually publish? That’s the real challenge. I’m exploring an entirely new world as I go, which is equal parts exciting, humbling, and surprisingly vulnerable. So far, it’s been a bit of a lone wolf experience with a few kind Beta Readers. Shout out to Paul Signorelli for his encouragement!
Q
What sparks your creativity and gets your energy flowing?
A
Curiosity! I’m endlessly fascinated by how things work, how people learn, and how technology can help us do things differently. Give me a problem, a blank whiteboard, and a good “What if…?” and my brain is off and running. Some of my best ideas have started with, “This may be completely crazy, so humor me for a minute…”
Q
Why should others get involved with ATD South Florida?
A
Come for the professional development. Stay for the people! ATD South Florida has given me opportunities to learn, lead, experiment, and build relationships with some seriously smart talent development professionals. Getting involved is where the real magic happens. Volunteer, raise your hand, share what you know, and get to know the peeps in the room. Before you know it, you’ve found your professional tribe.
Q
Which technology platform do you absolutely love using?
A
ChatGPT: Fast edits. Helps simplify complex ideas.
Q
What’s your all-time favorite learning tool or strategy?
A
Always design for learner practice and debrief.
If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right.
